The Political Science Department of Midnapore College has a long and glorious tradition in teaching. At the dawn of Indian Independence the College felt the necessity of imparting higher education in the political, social and administrative affairs of the Country to the students who could lead the Country properly and help in the further advancement of the Country. The students of Midnapore District and other districts were also eager to obtain education in Political Science in the true sense of the term. Realising the continuous pressure and zeal of the local people, Calcutta University granted affiliation in Political Science Honours Course in 1961.
