Gymnasium

Midnapore College owns its Gymnasium in the campus. Its main purpose is to build bodies, enhance physical strength and enable them to face any challenge. In the past the gymnasium was not located but had all accessories for physical exercise. This is reflected in the Calcutta University Calendar:

“There is also an open-air gymnasium equipped with up-to-date apparatus Indian clubs, dumb bells, bar- bells, chest-weight and boxing apparatus, expanders, developers, parallel bars, accessories of ground exercises to encourage students’ medals and prizes are awarded for their proficiency in swimming, walking, and other sports, and gymnasium exercises”.

At present the Gymnasium is housed in the ground floor of Netaji Subhas Birth Centenary Building now known as Netaji Bhaban in a large hall. There are two multigyms -16 stationed and 18 stationed – another multi gym 20 stationed will be constructed soon on the back side of Vivekananda Hall for which Rs-20.00 lakh has been sanctioned by the W.B State Youth Welfare Dept.

Gymnasium is meant for both students and staff. Anyone of the College staff after class hours may use instruments for his/her physical therapy or physical fitness. Students use it during and after class hours or on holidays / Sundays as required by them.

Multigyms are furnished with  trademill (electronised) bycle, massage chair, dumb-bells, bar- bells, weight lifting set, High jump pit which is rare in a college gymnasium, medicine ball, gym ball, there is yoga gym, there are other playing apparatuses in it.
